hi can we use ant colony optimization (ACO) to solve other problems like nonlinear equation in mathematics? (in papers this algorithm useing for TSP problem ,etc) in general can we use heuristic algorithms in this problem ?

It can be used for any combinatorial optimization problem. Modifying the behavior to fit the problem may be difficult and artificial, but it can be done. It is normally used for TSP because it is natural to talk about a search graph, and to talk about agents moving around the search graph. That is, TSP captures the "essence" of ACO.

I've been thinking about using simulated annealing as a rootfinding method for smooth but highly irregular functions.

That actually seems like a pretty good idea... Silly number theorists

can find best solution by good paths through graph and objective funcion (our objective function is f(n+1)f(n) )

it seems theorical. if out in the reality ,it seems irregular.
