Invention of the first floppy disk

Do you guys have an idea when the first floppy disk was invented ?
[spoiler]
In 1969 and this was invented by IBM (within a team whose manager was David Noble; more on this can be found here). Now this can seem weird but I was just looking at my IBM / Lenovo Thinkpad laptop and I saw that it can support floppy disks (whereas most laptops today seem to have abandonned this data storage format). I was wondering why they would be so attached to the floppy format

Interesting, indeed. I have learned some of the basics of data storage on this one computer science textbook I've read years ago, and all I can say is that as years go by, people use new inventions of the way they use to use data storage. As myself, I would prefer an USB flash drive over an floppy disk.

Re: Invention of the first floppy disk

Of course nobody uses floppy disks anymore that's why I was wondering why they still provide the floppy sector on their laptop computers ... actually if I look carefully I'd be able to dig out a few floppy disks from my closet back home !

 Yeah, those ol' floppy disks could be used on the laptop you've mentioned. Sounds fun, too!

Actually, some people in the world today still uses floppy disks. I am hoping that technology will increase while I'm alive . . .

I think floppy disks are already phased out in the market. And I don't people will use it still because it can only store a small file compare to USB.
