Want Help to Buy a New hard drive

I'm new to this forum and I'm hoping to get some advise. I need to add a second hard drive to my computer. I have a WD Caviar SE 250 GB. I would like to get the WD green 1T, make it the primary drive and slave the 250. Is this okay to do? I'm afraid to order the new drive because I'm not sure if there's something I'm not taking into consideration or is there something better? Oh! and I'm running Windows XP.

Help Please ?

Thanks in Advance

Re: Want Help to Buy a New hard drive

Yeah, that will be fine. But if your new hard drive is bootable, you have to change bios settings to check your 250GB first... The easy solution to this is not to put an operating system on your new hard drive until you are more comfortable with your set up.

Also, make sure the master/slave settings on the harddrives are either set to auto or the correct place... Sometimes, putting them to auto will lead to weird behavior (they both try to be master), but you can just set the correct one to slave when that happens.

allenborder it depends what you want it for, if you pm me more information such as the use I will be able to advice you better.

general rule of thumb:

external harddrive if its an archive

Re: Want Help to Buy a New hard drive

Compatible hard drives are needed by a computer to run the programs without any interruptions, your slave drive should be connected with the master drive and they should be compatible.
