Random musing

Our top three posters, cknapp, johnny, and myself, have made approximately 80% of the posts. :? Depending on our tenacity, we should probably think about recruiting new members or re-integrating with the math forums.

Yes, I agree. We need to find a way to recruite more people who are interested to join our computer forum. Do you have any strategies to recruit more people in this forum, CRGreathouse? I'll try to think of some ways to recruit more peoples in this forum as well.

Re: Random musing

I look forward to seeing if that works!

One thing is that we need discussion to engender more discussion. Unless people are talking about something, potential members look at the forums and don't stay long enough to register.

Yeah, we need to find a way to get people to stay in the forum, not just for visiting.

Re: Random musing

Is the topic "Random musing" and appropriate place to muse about random?

I've been searching Google for "the symbol for random". Literally. Depending on exactly how I phrase my search, as long as I omit results for Dan Brown, I get about nine results.

http://www.google.com/search?&q=%22the+ ... +random%22

There doesn't seem to be one. A symbol for "random", that is. I found a Chinese symbol for "random", but does a pictograph of "random" = a symbol for the concept of "random"?

How did I get here? I'm a website designer. I do some coding, naturally, but I would never pretend to be a programmer or a mathemetician or whatever. I was making buttons for a website, right? The usual, "home", "next", "random contribution". Hey looky! Instead of "home" I can use a little picture of a house! And, like, wowee! Instead of "next" I'll go nuts and use ">" and for "random" I'll use... well, I'll just use this here... um...

What should I use, guys?

A collection of symbols of different sizes and orientations, with the largest symbol being a vertically-oriented question mark near the middle?

Re: Random musing

Associated with randomness I'd see a coin thrown in the air, or the graph of a trajectory of a stochastic process ...
