Can't get new computer to work...

OK, so I decided to put together a computer, but I'm having some trouble. Hopefully it's of the "you forgot something obvious" variety, rather than "it's broken".

So I installed the motherboard (Asus M3A78 Pro), chip+HS/fan (Phenom II X4 920), power supply, case fan, SATA hard drive, and DVD burner, and plug everything together (including the case audio/USB/power switch cables). The only thing that was confusing was the case fan, which has a second plug in addition to the CHA_FAN1; after hunting around for a while I decided it only needed the other if I was using a legacy motherboard without a CHA_FAN1.

I plugged the computer in and was rewarded with the motherboard light. Next I turned on the power and saw both the processor and chassis fan spin up; good so far. Unfortunately, I didn't get anything on the screen -- not the POST, not BIOS, nothing.

I think there is some problem with Hard Drive that is why you are not getting anything on you Monitor.

But even without a hard drive I should get the POST results on my screen, yes?

Yeah; you should be getting a POST... Hmm... I really have no idea what to say without being able to turn your computer on myself and see what happens... and then dig through it's intestines and look for problems.

You know, I think the problem is likely a faulty motherboard. I'm going to take it back to the store and see what they say.

It will take a few days to get everything settled on the new PC.

I replaced the motherboard, but it still doesn't work. My current thought is that it's the RAM: either it's faulty, or the motherboard isn't supplying enough voltage.

If you are still facing this problem then get computer support.

if it doesn't start or the fan doesn't even open up, I think the problem was on your power supply, it wasn't generating much enough power to run your computer.

Re: Can't get new computer to work...

I got it working quite a while ago, but for those interested: there was a serious flaw in the processor that sent feedback to the motherboard, destroying it. So the mobo seemed not to work quite right, I replaced it, and the motherboard still seemed bad... turns out both needed to be replaced (though thankfully I got the order right, processor than motherboard in this case).
