Laptop/Netbook help

Hi,i am going to join an engineering college next month, hence planning to get a laptop/net book.I basically need it for downloading course material, video lectures and to make power point presentations.
It is something i should be able to carry around easily (from my room-library-hall) also i want to keep the budget as low as possible (around 300-400$)
I have asked a few people for suggestions and they gave a thumbs up for Dell Inspiron Mini 10
So, to all the techies here,i would like to know its pro/cons and if possible, any better alternatives.

Re: Laptop/Netbook help

Congrats for the engineering college, xaop.
Considering your needs, I believe any kind of laptop will do and maybe only hardware quality will really make a difference to you; in this respect, I heard that Dell's weakness was precisely hardware quality (a lof of feedback on Amazon mentioning that the make is quite average with cracks on the plastic that would appear quite easily). To be confirmed. Personally, if I had a strict budget restriction, I'd rather go for Toshiba (they've got some pretty robust solutions at very low prices).

A netbook is the best choice for you. It is ultra light and very easy to carry along. It can very well carry out dowloading, watching video lectures and making presentations . Dell Inspiration is a good Intel Atom based netbook. I think it is a good choice for you.

Re: Laptop/Netbook help

I was checking out netbooks specs the other day, they're just so impressive now; netbooks are about as powerfoul as laptops (just their screen is a little small, which can be tedious to work with sometimes, especially when you manipulate large Excel files). Otherwise, it's just great (and really cheap, average price of netbooks has been steadily decreasing for months now).
